As a documentary filmmaker, I specialize in drawing out fresh, thoughtful responses on difficult topics from people unaccustomed to being interviewed. This could be via an interpreter or in English, but for me, this is about respect for the interviewee and an acknowledgement of their key role in the proceedings. Challenging questions such as the meaning of life or death, or surviving breast cancer, come after trust has been built between the documentary filmmaker, and the sitter; it is all about respect.
